Caramel balayage with a soft root melt, coloured at Neelo Luxe Studio in Port Credit

It is the question everyone wants answered before they pick up the phone, and almost no salon website will tell you. So here is the straight answer, with our actual prices.

Balayage at Neelo Luxe Studio starts at $350, including a blowout. Air touch starts at $285, and partial highlights start at $100. Where you land inside that depends on four things, all of which we go through before anything begins.

What actually moves the price

Balayage is priced by the work involved, not by a flat rate, because two people asking for “balayage” can need wildly different appointments. Four things drive it.

1. Length and density

The obvious one, and the one people underestimate. Hair past the shoulders needs more product and more sectioning time, but density matters more than length. Very thick mid-length hair often takes longer than fine long hair, because every section has to be fine enough for the lightener to work evenly.

2. Where your hair is starting from

Going two levels lighter is a different job from going five. Naturally dark hair holds warm pigment that has to be lifted through and then neutralised, which takes both time and toner. This is the single biggest reason two clients booking the same service pay different amounts.

3. What is already on your hair

Previous colour changes everything. Box dye, old highlights, henna and years of layered salon colour all sit on the hair in bands that lift at different speeds. Working through that safely is corrective work, and it is priced as colour correction from $300 rather than as a standard balayage.

If you are in that position, read how we approach colour correction before you book — it will save you a surprise.

4. How far you want to go

A soft, lived-in balayage two shades lighter than your base is a shorter appointment than a bright, high-contrast blonde. Both are balayage. They are not the same job.

The number most people forget

The appointment price is not the real cost of your colour. Maintenance is.

This is where balayage earns its reputation. Because it is painted freehand and left soft at the root, there is no hard regrowth line — so instead of returning every six weeks for a root touch-up, most clients stretch to somewhere between three and five months, with a toner in between to keep the tone from drifting warm.

Run that over a year and the comparison changes shape entirely. Foil highlights at a lower sitting price, refreshed every six to eight weeks, will usually cost more across twelve months than balayage refreshed twice. That is the honest reason we recommend balayage to people who want to spend less on their hair, not more.

Why very cheap balayage is expensive

Balayage priced well below the going rate in Mississauga is usually one of three things: a much shorter appointment than the work needs, no toner included, or a stylist still learning the technique. All three arrive at the same destination — brassy, uneven, or damaged hair that needs correcting.

Colour correction starts at $300 here. A cheap balayage that needs correcting has cost more than a properly done one, and taken two appointments to get where you wanted to be after the first.

Is balayage right for you?

Balayage suits you if you want softer, blended dimension, a grow-out you can live with, and fewer salon visits. If you want brighter, more structured lightness from root to end, full highlights will get you there more directly — that comparison is covered in balayage vs. highlights.

And if you are not sure, that is what the consultation is for. It is included, it happens before anything starts, and it is genuinely fine to leave it at that if the answer turns out to be “not today”.
